pls don't judge me I have so many injured guren icons okay
[Compared to this, the talking furniture from ages ago seemed almost pleasant. The door clicks shut behind them, and Guren almost wants to drop down right here. It's the first building they've come across in a while now— some sort of cabin in the woods that's falling apart just like the rest of the town they'd started in. Guren was bleeding from a variety of areas— a number of spots on his torso, his head, his face, his thigh— and that doesn't even start on the broken bones he's sporting, but he had a demon to take care of those injuries.
The man he was trying to support next to him was a different story. Hadn't they said something about not wanting to test if he could die and come back...?]
Look at me, Dex. [Guren wasn't trying to hide his worry now. He'd arrived too late, or at least that's his perspective. He shows up and something is nearly finished toying with Dextera like he's some sort of doll— something grey, with wings. Guren couldn't grasp what was happening, but interrupting had shown him that he was nearly outmatched. Nearly. With some biting words, he'd slain the creature(?) just before he was about to be offed himself. It was risky, to say the least.
But they're indoors now. Indoors, and there have to be supplies they can make use of somewhere. He staggers his next step forward as he tries to lead Dextera in, coughing blood against the back of his own hand. He's noticing that even his own injuries are staying longer than usual, somehow...]
Damn it...
[But he needs to know how Dextera is doing. How much can he handle? Guren doesn't want to find out his limit right now. One hand grips at Dextera's shoulder. They've been supporting each other the whole walk here, and he's trying not to weigh him down. His other hand, though the back of it is bloody now, rests against Dextera's chest carefully.] Sit down here.

Saying “I could tell” would be a mean thing, and it’s not exactly what he wants to convey with words, so he refrains and considers it. Brushing some of Dextera’s hair back into place with his fingers, he smiles fondly between breaths. ]
I’m luckier than I thought. [ Dextera is here, wanting him for some reason. How did that come to be... Trying to trace it back is pretty difficult when it seems like such a natural progression.
As they’re sitting like this, he’s relieved that he doesn’t feel worse, or ill, or in too much more danger. There’s just this comfort. Warmth. ] You seemed like you liked it.
[ Did he...?? Can this be on the list of repeatables, he wants to know... ]
no subject
so, yeah. he liked it. ]
I did.
[ it is most certainly on the list of repeatables. he wants to hear guren make all those sounds again, and admire the way he tries to hide them, too. ]
I just thought... I really wanted to try it, suddenly. I'm glad I did.
no subject
You actually have this pretty cute side to you, you know. [ He has said the thing he keeps thinking aloud, amazing. He can’t believe Dextera is just, the way that he is. ]
I like it. [ Well, he made Dextera admit embarrassing things that he likes, so he can admit that he likes Dextera like this, too. Most people would just say “I like you” but well, that’s just not Guren. ]
no subject
Ah... [ face burning, he hides away in guren's shoulder. ] That makes me happy to hear.
[ he doesn't know about having a cute side, since this is just the person that he is, but if guren likes it... then he'll try to keep existing the way he always has. there are harder expectations to fulfill in his life than that. ]
no subject
[ Asking it like that, he deserves to be smacked. But he takes a slow breath, having finally caught up to evening it out, and runs his hand over the back of Dextera’s head. ]
You can wash whatever you need to off with the water there. [ Like, does he want to rinse his mouth, too... He doesn’t know. ] The blankets are probably dry enough for us to sleep.
no subject
Then you can set it up.
[ that part is still mumbled into guren's shoulder, and then he's moving away, rubbing the back of his hand against his cheek like he can force the blush to flee. he can't! but he can retreat to the edge of the water to clean himself up, grateful not for the first time that the water is warm.
it's promising too, isn't it? wherever they're headed probably isn't totally the worst. ]
no subject
[Yes, he will set it up. He shifts away from Dextera and fixes his pants, finally. Then, it's over to their belongings. Dextera's coat is probably the thing that's the most damp, from how it was left, and he feels a little bad for that... But he'll leave it laid out so it can be dry by the time they wake up. They have enough blankets that he can make a nice little setting for them to lie on, without lying directly on the rock, and still have something to cover up with, and another under their heads. They'll just have to share.
His jacket is still set aside, too, so he sits down and waits for Dextera, one leg stretched out in front of him as the other is bent as an arm rest. He's watching Dextera now that he's done, without any shame.]
no subject
well, it's not a big deal. other than a peek over his shoulder to confirm that he's being watched and that guren has set up the blankets, he goes through the motions of cleaning himself up and washing his mouth out. for good measure, he splashes his face too, and then he's back to guren's side. ]
You look comfortable already.
no subject
Yeah, I'm comfortable. How about you?
no subject
they can worry about everything when they wake up. for now, this is all that matters. ]
I am. And tired.
[ the kind of tired, now, that would make even a spike seem comfortable. luckily, there are no spikes here—just blankets and warmth, and dextera gently pulls guren next to him when he settles down. ]
no subject
Tomorrow, we can take our time, and see if we feel like following the water down.
[Fuck that cave, he's decided. Leaning closer still, he gives Dextera a cute little kiss, lingering even as chaste as it is.] This isn't a bed, but it's pretty close. We can sleep comfortably.
no subject
You're always taking care of me. [ a little light, though—teasing, not sorry. ] Thank you.
[ now that he's feeling better, he can really and truly enjoy the closeness of their bodies—for now, it's chaste, but that chasteness is warm and perfect in its own way. he doesn't want anything else but to feel guren's body pressed against him, whole and definitely alive. ]
no subject
[He says it with a big grin and a breath of a laugh. Their joined hands have to separate, but it's just so that he can slide one arm under their makeshift pillow, that much closer, and the other around Dextera. A worthy exchange.]
I'm so damn tired. [Getting blown is surprisingly exhausting? In the most satisfying way, of course. His eyes slip closed already.] Think we should sleep in?
[He very well might fall asleep in the middle of this silly pillow talk, or whatever it is, but that's fine. Everything about this is more than fine.]
no subject
[ when guren’s eyes fall closed, dextera takes that as a cue not to close his eyes, too, but to stare—gaze might be a kinder word, but the fact is that he’s watching guren, even if his expression is softer than the often wide-eyed, terrified staring he tends toward.
it’s completely on impulse that he reaches between them, moving only slightly, and brushes his fingers against guren’s lips.
he’s not trying to send any message. he’s just touching because he can. ]
no subject
[He can feel eyes on him, and that's easy enough to ignore. It's cute, it's just like all the staring he was doing earlier— but once fingertips move and touch to his lips, he's smiling in a way he can't hold back. He tries to kiss at those fingertips, but the way he's grinning makes it not so much a kiss as a little nod and nudge, and he's breathing out a laugh shortly after. He's embarrassed, but he can't stop smiling...]
What? [It's not accusing at all. It's just a word to fill the silence, really.]
no subject
[ of course, it wouldn’t make sense to just leave it at that. he replaces his fingers with his mouth, kissing guren’s smile. ]
I just wanted to do that. I hope it’s okay.
[ he knows it’s okay! he’s just being coy now. ]
no subject
Yeah. Wake me up like that, too.
[He'd genuinely love that, so he's only kidding if Dextera thinks he's kidding. Obviously.]
no subject
I will.
[ he says it quietly, blissful, and finally tucks himself against guren in order to actually, for real, try to go to sleep now.
he feels like he could talk like this forever, if he didn’t stop himself. ]
no subject
Now that he is asleep, though, he's so comfortable that it's difficult to wake up. Morning arrives, and he still doesn't want to, tangled up with Dextera even more than when he'd originally fallen asleep. It's chilly in the morning by the water, and the blankets and Dextera are a lot more inviting in their warmth.
Every time he thinks that he should get up and do something so they can get moving, he remembers that they're not in a hurry. They should take their time. It's fine. And with that, he can relax and soak in this comfort even more.
So, he's going to be a lazy bum as long as he can.]
no subject
dextera snuggled as close as is humanly possible in the night, tangling their legs together, and he’s just about breathing his air through guren’s chest he’s pressed so close.
when he wakes up and can’t seem to get back to sleep, even with his eyes closed, he makes good on that promise from the night before—turning his face up, so he can kiss the underside of guren’s jaw sweetly.
even if he isn’t awake yet... it’s nice to do. ]
no subject
Hey. [ Spoken low, affectionate, he nuzzles his face against Dextera’s. He can be cute and cuddly even more when he’s waking up, apparently!! ]
no subject
Mm...
[ a little too sleepy to speak yet, but not too sleepy to use his mouth for smoochin'. ]
no subject
Especially when there’s nothing standing in the way. ]
no subject
...good morning.
[ he speaks finally, a long moment after they part from the kiss. it's so rare for him to wake up happy like this, but lately, it's been as natural as breathing. ]
no subject
[ You know, he still doesn’t want to get up. The sound of the waterfall from this distance is peaceful, and there’s no feeling of anyone watching them anymore. Whatever it was must have gone away, or did it ease up after a point...? It doesn’t matter. What matters is that he can brush his fingers over Dextera’s face and take in that happy expression of his.
That’s how it should be. He gives him another short kiss. ]
I haven’t slept that well in forever.
